Beginning in the mid-2010s, a subsidiary of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) convinced seven states to establish Office of New Americans (ONA) chapters, which were sold as a way to integrate immigrants into their new communities. In reality, those programs were used to assist illegal aliens and drum up new business for AILA members. After the surge of illegal immigration and mounting costs under Biden, momentum for new ONA chapters has stalled.
